Hello all!
Sorry for the long absence. I will try to be better about posting but I must admit I need more discipline in my internet affairs.
Discipline is often a trial. It involves giving a task your full focus on a regular basis. But the world is so full of stuff to see and do. It lures us away from things that need to be done with the promise that there is something better or more interesting over the next hill.
We've all had this happen at some time or another. This is not something to beat yourself up over. It's not so wonderful if it becomes the norm of our lives however. There is a joy and sense of accomplishment in reaching the completion of a goal. We cheat ourselves of it when we keep our eyes on what else may be coming around the bend and not on the work in front of us.
Just something to consider.

Tolerance? More like Persecution
I tend to vary my news coverage. Some media outlets lean too much to the left and some too far to the right.(Though it seems the trend today is to lean left) I even check out BBC news to get an outsider's view on our nation.
So I was on Fox News website when I read one of their opinion pieces. a Christian bakery was closing because they refused to make a cake for a gay wedding(Fox News, Todd's American Dispatch, 9/3/2013) . Their shop was militantly boycotted afterwards by the LGBT community. Death threats were issued and vendors told not to do business with this bakery. All because the owners were practicing their faith. To make matters worse Oregon's Bureau of Labor and Industries are "looking" into the matter for "possible discrimination".(the Oregonian, 9/1/2013)
Todd Starnes goes on to make an excellent point...
Commissioner Brad Avakian told The Oregonian
that he was committed to a fair and thorough investigation to determine whether
the bakery discriminated against the lesbians.
“Everybody is entitled to their own beliefs, but that doesn’t mean that folks have the right to discriminate,” he told the newspaper. “The goal is to rehabilitate. For those who do violate the law, we want them to learn from that experience and have a good, successful business in Oregon.”

In other words, Christians who live and work in Oregon must follow man’s law instead of God’s law. But in a show of benevolence, the state is willing to rehabilitate and reeducate Christian business owners like the Kleins.(Fox News, Todd's American Dispatch, 9/3/2013)
Todd goes on to mention several other similar cases. People who are being persecuted because they are following GOD's law rather than man's. We must realize we are in a war. Our rights to practice our faith are being eroded while we slumber. Somewhere the Christian community got fooled or lulled into the lie that tolerance meant surrendering our rights to practice what we believe and just accepting what the current culture chooses to foist upon us.
We must wake up from our daydreams of times past and witness this new reality. We must ask our LORD for HIS assistance in this for we do not just face these attacks here but in the Spiritual battlefield as well Then, in unison we must exert ourselves politically(an arena we are not fond of) and contact our elected officials. Persecution will come but for heaven's sake let's not make it easy on them.
Todd leaves us with quite the zinger, food for thought as it were.
The plight of the Klein family exposes the true nature of the left. Those who preach tolerance and diversity are the least tolerant and the least diverse of all.

A warning
I am currently almost through the book of Ezekiel again in my private bible reading. This time through the Holy Spirit tapped me on the shoulder about a certain passage.
Ezekiel 33:7-9
"Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. When I say to the wicked, 'O, wicked man, you will surely die,' and you do not speak out to dissuade him from his wicked ways, then the wicked man will die for his sin and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you do warn the wicked man to turn from his sin and he does not do so, he will dies for his sin, but you will have saved yourself.
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I have a warning. I see a darkening trend in console/computer games. The subject matter is becoming more and more evil. I see titles like The Darkness, Diablo 3, and Dark Souls. Games like Mass Effect 3 are applauded for having alternative lifestyles in them. Mature themed games which are dubbed such because of foul language, crudity, gore and sex are in demand. There is even a game that lets you play an antichrist like character(Lucius, indie, 2012) Games like the Binding of Isaac are distorting biblical truth in heretical and downright satanic fashion.
Thus I call on you to be mindful of what you are engaging in and what your kids are playing.
Luke 17 1-3
Jesus said to the disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. So watch yourselves."
It may be "fun" but does it hinder someone else's growth in Christ? If so better to get rid of it.
The passage from Luke of course applies to game developers as well. We are held accountable for what we do in this life. I know I don't want to go before Jesus and have to say that my actions led to sin or worse. Rise above this darkening trend and you will be blessed.

Laying down one's life
There are times that a Christian is called to make the sacrifice mentioned in John 15:13, that of literally dying to save one's friends. There is no greater act of love that we as humans can do.
At this time of year we should remember our dear soldiers, police and firefighters. They daily place their lives on the line for us and some do indeed give that ultimate gift to us to keep us safe and free. And there are many more people who silently protect us than we will ever know but remain in the shadows to protect their identities. Thank you and GOD Bless you all.
I also want to call attention to another group of people. They lay down their ambitions, their dreams, their hopes to serve another. They help in the background not seeking praise or glory. These caregivers take care of their charges without complaint and with minuscule or no earthly recompense. They come in many shapes. The parents who won't give up on their children with cognitive or physical challenges. The son or daughter who cares for their parent with Alzheimer's. The friend who comes along side to help when there is no one else. There is usually little respite. Government assistance shrink daily. In some cases they are not even appreciated by the ones they aid. Yet still they take the task up gladly. All because of love.
Sacrificial love comes in many shapes and sizes. But there is always a cost. It may be time that could have spent in "fun" or very real physical and mental strain. For those who labor in this manner, may I say GOD Bless you as well. Remember this. Your deeds are not unknown. The LORD who sees all, rewards us for each good act we do even those that no one else will ever see.
Merry Christmas to all of you. Be safe and remember the reason for the season.

Jehovah-nissi
Jehovah-nissi means the LORD who is my Banner.
The story behind the name comes just after the Exodus. A people called the Amalekites made the very bad mistake of attacking the children of Israel at a place called Rephidim(Exodus 17:8). Joshua led the people into battle while Moses went up the hill. There he raised the staff, a symbol of GOD's authority and power in the air. As long as he held this staff in the air the Israelites would continue to win. But when his arms grew tired they would be pushed back. Finally, his brother and Hur helped Moses to hold the staff steady till sunset. Thus the Israelites triumphed.
Some of you may wonder about the present day significance of this.
Consider this...
Jesus was lifted up for us. HE is our banner and from whom we get our strength and authority on this earth. It is by the power of HIS Holy Spirit that we are empowered to the acts of GOD that HE has prepared beforehand for us.When we look up to him and raise HIM as LORD over our lives we can go forth as the victors that HIS shed blood made us.
...in all things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.(Rom 8:37)
Are you in a battle today? Then look up to HE who is your Banner, Jesus. Raise HIS banner high and live victoriously.

"Old Testament GOD"
I have run into this expression a lot in my life. "He went all Old Testament on X...", or "He's more like the GOD of the Old Testament..." Let's think about this now...
They are one and the same GOD.
HE was just as loving, good, righteous and holy then as HE is now.
Even as HE ejected Adam and Eve from Eden, GOD hinted that HE had a plan for their redemption.(Genesis 3:15) A plan HE had conceived of before they had even sinned. A plan that included HIS beloved SON going to the cross. Seems to me that the love we sing about was there from before the beginning...hmm?
What people get uncomfortable about is how quick GOD acted on sin in the Old Testament.
But even there... let's look at David.
He conspired to murder one of his most faithful men and sleep with that man's wife.(2 Sam 11) Nathan confronted David with his guilt. David confessed his sin and ...was forgiven?(2 Sam 13)
But wait the Old Testament GOD did this?
Yes. HE forgave David. Just like us when we confess our sins in the New Testament era.
Boys and Girls, just because you aren't zapped from on high in the New Testament era immediately when you sin does not mean there are not consequences. They may not be as flashy as the fall of Jericho but they are just as devastating to our faith journeys.
Sin always causes death. (Romans 6:23) Perhaps not literal death(though that too can be a consequence) but death of relationships, opportunities, and our utility to GOD. Moreover it damages a Christian's joy.
Let me hammer this into our heads. The GOD of all creation is unchanging. HE can not tolerate sin because of HIS holiness. There is always a cost when we sin.
GOD's character did not change between Testaments. What has changed is our ability to see more of HIS salvation plan.
To those who think that JESUS will act any different than the FATHER did let me show you a peek from Revelations...
It is JESUS who opens the seals on the scroll for the final judgments on mankind and sin.(Rev 6) And anyone who is not written in the LAMB's Book of Life will be cast into the Lake of Fire.(Rev 20:11-15)
GOD is always willing to forgive but HE always judges sin. Always. HE is a loving GOD but HE is also our Judge and our King. Forget this at your peril.

Birthday
I just celebrated another birthday yesterday and that blessing has prompted some thoughts. Before I was born, my parents were told that I should not be brought to term. When I was born my parents were told that I would not live to adulthood. As I grew I was told that I would lose the ability to walk long before now.
Because of GOD's grace I am thirty-seven years old. I walk with a cane but I still walk. I have my days of considerable pain but even there HIS grace provides. I have been blessed with doctors who didn't limit their sight to the muscular dystrophy but were challenged to help me live a normal life no matter what. I have been watched over by friends who knew my limits and didn't walk away. They drew nearer and shared in my struggles, indeed helping me bear my burdens.
I also have a family who walks daily with me, lifting me up in prayer and loving me where I am at. GOD knew exactly what HE was doing when HE placed me with this family. They care, hold me accountable, and encourage.
Ultimately I have GOD HIMSELF who stands with me and carries me when I can't carry myself. HIS promises help me hold it together when it hurts too much to think let alone move.
Some may ask why GOD has not taken the disease away. It is fruitless to ask such questions. HE is the I AM. His wisdom trumps mine every time. I do know that HE comes alongside in every circumstance. As Paul was told when asking about his thorn, the LORD's grace is sufficent.
Lest you think I'm over the top, I too have my days of asking why. I'm right there in line for a new body as we are promised and I too ask how long till Jesus comes.(And pretty please could HE hurry up)
I am who I am because of the grace of GOD. I am still here because of HIS mercy. And I have eternity because of HIS love.
I shouldn't be here according to man but by GOD's incredible and awesome power, I Stand.
All glory, majesty, honor and power to our Father who sits on the throne, Jesus the Lamb who was Slain, and the Spirit who makes us one. Thank you again my GOD for another year of life.

All are welcome
Our GOD is one who draws all to HIMSELF. HE died that all may be adopted into HIS family.
Thus it is sad when we hear figures about how segregated our churches are. I heard in one sermon that there are areas in this country where there are schools with more diversity in their students than the churches in the very same areas.
Brothers and Sisters this must not be.
I assure you that when we all get to heaven the criteria will not be on the basis of ethnicity. We are welcomed on the basis of Jesus' blood and that alone. There are no color lines in Paradise.
Let me leave with a pair of verses, one from the Old Testament and one from the New.
...for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations (Isaiah 56:7)
And they sang a new song: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals because you were slain, and with your blood purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth. (Rev 5:9)

The Florida situation
I have been pleased for the most part of the Sanford, Florida community's handling of the tragedy in their midst. There have been prayer rallies and marches but blessedly no violence that I know of. This is how a true quest for justice is approached.
I also sadly heard of bounties being placed upon the accused. A worthless and divisive effort, I have been glad that they have come to naught. GOD has provided us with authorities to handle the sword and it was their task to bring in this man. In the proper manner and at the proper time.
I look now to our justice apparatus and our legislature. Though not perfect, we do have one of the better criminal justice systems on the planet. We the people should pray that GOD give them wisdom for this trial as well as discernment. And we should be ready for ANY verdict. True justice may not come on this earth. And as far as the law which this case is testing, our representatives need to take a hard look at it.
Continued prayer over this situation is what is needed. For the deceased's family, for the accused, for those in authority and those who must sit in judgment. So please pray for these people. And please continue to be men and women of peace.

Shell vs Substance
In my last post I spoke of an incredibly gifted young man with a amazing voice. But that isn't the whole story.
This young man and his good friend stepped out on to the stage in Britain's Got Talent and received a less than stellar welcome. The young man struggles with weight and tends to be shy. He is not a looker and thus did not immediately draw any eyes.
Till he opened his mouth. Then the audience saw a measure of who he really was beneath the shell. The young man and his partner received a standing ovation from everyone including the judges.
Brothers and Sisters, these skins of ours, these shells are our outer appearance and nothing more. They do not dictate the person inside or the gifts that the GOD of all creation bestowed upon us.
Let me drill home the point and make it clear.
He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
This passage was spoken by Isaiah(Isa 53:2-3, NIV) in regards to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. That ought to give you a clue about how GOD feels about shells.
Ask GOD to show you people the way HE sees them. You will discover wonders unseen to the naked eye.

Brother's Keeper
Am I my brother's keeper? The famous question asked by Cain. To a sad extent it exists today in our very self-centered societies. We are very me oriented people.
GOD would not have it so. We were built for community and to act as a community. To protect each other and build each other up. We are all living stones in the great temple of our GOD and thus we are to support each other in HIS purposes for each other's lives.
GOD made this abundantly clear in HIS greatest commandment to us. Love the LORD your GOD with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength and to love your neighbor as yourself.
I was blessed yesterday to hear a young man on a British Talent Show. His voice was magnificent and he received a standing ovation. But he in the blurb before the performance let the audience know something. Without his partner's encouragement he would not have the courage to be there.
Now think on that for a second. How many gifts of GOD wait to be revealed because some shy individual waits for an encourager who has not yet stepped to the plate.
We ARE are brother's keepers, ladies and gentlemen. We are here to lift up are fellows so they in turn have the strength to lift up others. And as we make these stands of grace, our names may not be noted but GOD who sees all, blesses us for acting like HIS Son. For Christ lifted us all up to where we could never reach on our own.
May GOD Bless you.
GOD would not have it so. We were built for community and to act as a community. To protect each other and build each other up. We are all living stones in the great temple of our GOD and thus we are to support each other in HIS purposes for each other's lives.
GOD made this abundantly clear in HIS greatest commandment to us. Love the LORD your GOD with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength and to love your neighbor as yourself.
I was blessed yesterday to hear a young man on a British Talent Show. His voice was magnificent and he received a standing ovation. But he in the blurb before the performance let the audience know something. Without his partner's encouragement he would not have the courage to be there.
Now think on that for a second. How many gifts of GOD wait to be revealed because some shy individual waits for an encourager who has not yet stepped to the plate.

Living for Jesus
Many of you have seen The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. There is that one scene towards the end where Peter is talking with his centaur General. The Witch's forces are approaching and they far outnumber the Narnians. Peter asks the general if he is with him and the centaur says to the death. Then Peter cries out that wonderful phrase. "For Narnia and for Aslan!"
For those who've read the whole series there is no question who the Narnians are really going into battle for. That's why it stirs our hearts as the heroes charge. It is indeed glorious to fight unto death for our King. But Jesus also asks that we live for HIM.
Not so easy anymore.
That requires a daily struggle to submit. The tasks are often mundane and the people involved rude and obnoxious. Where's the glory in that?
The answer is in every GOD honoring deed we do, there is glory. When we serve as our King served, we ensure that HE gets the praise.
It should be no surprise that we as Christians are watched like hawks. There are always those seeking to criticize. But when we humble ourselves to the task and take up our Cross daily in a loving manner, it too is noticed. We may not hear the praises on this side of the Veil. But ultimately every person's deeds will be exposed and the acts that glorify GOD will shine like the stars.
Setting the table, changing a diaper, teaching a class, or feeding the hungry may not seem particularly heroic but in the end these simple acts can change lives. Remember that the gift of even a cup of water is notable to our LORD.

Relationship Builder
I want you to think about something. Everytime we sin, we damage our relationship with GOD. We also hurt ourselves and/or others.
Thankfully GOD dealt with the consequences with that by Jesus' redeeming sacrifice at the cross. But HE also did more. When Jesus left to take HIS place at the right hand of GOD, the FATHER, HE promised a Helper, the Holy Spirit.
Since you became a believer in Christ, have you noticed that when you sin, you feel like less than dirt? That's good. The Holy Spirit is convicting you of that sin. You see, The Holy Spirit know of our tendency to want to hide our shames and slip them into the guilt locker. But HE loves us and won't let us get away with that. HE leans on us until we repent and will keep adding on the pressure till we do.
Why? HE knows that we need clear unbroken relationship with GOD. Sin is like a big roadblock to that. Confession with repentance clears the air and restores that relationship as if you haven't erred at all. (Note that doesn't mean you may not be disciplined by GOD for what you did. Just like our earthly parents, GOD does punish HIS children. HE does this because HE loves us even if we aren't crazy about being disciplined at the time.)
The Holy Spirit also encourages us when we make right decisions and enter wise relationships. Ultimately this dependence on HIM for guidance is one of the clearest ways of growth as a believer. And as we grow, the Holy Spirit will grow build into our life journey relationships with believers and non-believers. Because believe it or not, non-believers and our interactions with them do matter in our walk with Christ.
Thus by conviction, correction, encouragement, guidance and comfort, the Holy Spirit develops us our relationship with GOD and each other.

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to all my readers. May your day be blessed with friendship and fellowship as you rejoice in the birth of our LORD and SAVIOR Jesus Christ.
A thought...
My pastor mentioned that the shepherds were directed to see Jesus at the manger not just for their own faith experience but to share with others. May I add that GOD often does this. If you look ahead to Easter, there is a pointed remark that the angel pushed away the stone in front of the tomb. Why? Jesus could have done that or for that matter walked right through it. That little bit of stone and wax couldn't stop the maker of the universe. No, the stone was rolled away for the women and the apostles. So they could go, see the empty tomb, and share with others what had occurred.
We too are called to share what we witness. As my pastor said, we share because others who do not yet have relationship with Jesus will not see otherwise. It is this way that they may look through our eyes of faith and come to envy what we have. And in this manner seeds are planted.

The Cross

At some point almost everyone has seen a cross. May I share an observation?
The horizontal bar is the task HE left us with, The Great Commission. We are to bring more of our brothers and sisters into GOD's Kingdom. We are to be HIS hands reaching out to the world in love.
Thus we are to first communicate with GOD through the way HE has made then we are to reach out to others in HIS strength, power and love.
The Cross is a reminder of heaven's love and mercy to us and the Call that still resounds from HE who wants all HIS children safely home.

Black Friday
Black Friday is known for helping stores get into the "black" and giving consumers a chance at great deals. I would posit though that as the years pass, the black in Black Friday is due to how bleak consumers' behavior has become on this giant shopping day.
Let us remember what this season is for, please.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty GOD, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.(Isaiah 6:6)
See I lay a stone in Zion, a trusted stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed. (Isaiah 28:16)
The greatest gift we have ever received came in peace, love and humility. Go forth and behave in a similar manner.
Let us remember what this season is for, please.

A Happy Thanksgiving to all!
I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and to give you some food for thought.
There is always something to give thanks to GOD for.
Even if HE did no more than send HIS Son for your salvation, that is enough to fill HIS Halls with praise for eternity.
But GOD shows HIS mercies and love every day of your life. Each breath you take is a gift. Every sky you see is a masterpiece HE crafted for you. Your very senses declare his grace in every way.
I am not trying to diminish anyone's suffering. We all have pain. But that too we can be grateful for in time. Pain softens the hardness of our hearts and creates compassion for others. Shared hardship can build bridges which no kind word could. And GOD speaks to us in our pain and weakness in a special way for HE too knew suffering, hardship and loss.
So for those who do rejoice this day, may GOD bless you and yours and I hope you enjoy this special time of fellowship and family. Remember to give thanks to HIM for this day and for all the ways HE blessed and blesses you throughout the year.
And for those for whom this is a painful day, I pray for the renewal of your joy and that Our Father holds you in HIS arms and lets you know the myriad of ways that HE loves you. May the peace of our Lord and Savior Jesus wrap around you like a cloak. And may the comfort and encouragement of the Holy Spirit ever be in your mind and heart.

Watch how you walk
You may be the only Christ someone sees, so be careful how you walk in this life.
Non-believers often criticize Christians for not practicing what we preach. They use this as an excuse for not attempting a faith journey of their own. But sadly there is some merit to their words. Sometimes we Christians use our GOD-given freedom for license and wreck our testimony for Jesus.
We are the hands and feet of Jesus in this world. If we don't respect the Bible and what it dictates for our lives how will anyone else.
Do you not know that when you stand firm in GOD's truth other believers are encouraged?
1Thessalonians 4:7-9, Paul talks of how he is encouraged by the Thessalonians standing firm and that it brings him joy. I have felt this myself when people take public stands of gratefulness towards our Savior. My heart leaps as they give words of testimony and thanks. When you take that stand of faith, you may be that bit of encouragement that GOD uses to help another believer take one more step in his journey.
Just as children look to adults for how they should behave, so often do younger believers look to those they view as more mature. Jesus warns us of behavior that could cause any of HIS little ones to fall. (Luke 17:1-3) So ask yourself as you take an action that may be even the least be sketchy, if a younger believer sees this will it cause his faith to falter?
A small side note for this day. I do not believe in celebrating Halloween. I know some do. To me faithwise it is too tied to idolatry and paganistic practice to be of any use. Even in these times, there are those individuals that still call this one of their holy days. Safety-wise I think it is risky for anyone to let their children go traipsing around the neighborhood asking strangers for treats. If you want to let your kids get costumes fine but do it another day. Many churches have harvest fests that allow a safe environment for kids to socialize and have fun.
Getting back to the topic at hand, we should walk in such a way that Christ is glorified in everything we do. Not an easy task and impossible without the help of HIS Holy Spirit. But if we are to be HIS witnesses, to plant seeds and encourage the faithful, it is what we are called to do.
As we are fallen humans we will make mistakes along the way, but as redeemed sons and daughters we can have an impact for Christ.
May HIS wisdom guide your journey, HIS righteousness inspire you, HIS love embrace you, and HIS faithfulness lead you ever onward. GOD Bless and keep you, my brothers and sisters in Christ.

9/11
First and foremost, my prayers are for those who lost loved ones that day ten years ago. May GOD bless you with comfort, good memories and HIS peace.
Many will gather to honor the victims and the heroes, both known and unknown. This is appropriate. Let no political rhetoric sully this day. It should be a time of reflection, remembrance, sorrow and hope.
Why hope?
Because once again GOD showed us that even amidst the evil that men do, HE can bring good from it.
We could have crumpled after such a blow but we didn't.
Instead, we used this moment of tragedy to draw nearer to one another. Churches were filled. Volunteers poured into serve at Ground Zero and elsewhere. Hands reached out to other hands that for a moment in time clasped back regardless of differences.
We were lifted up as a country by a sovereign GOD who carries us when we can't carry ourselves.

Angels
I have been tooling around in 1 Corinthians and I want to share an observation.
In today's society much emphasis and interest has been generated on the subject of angels. An angel is a servant of the LORD, a figure of power and awe. One angel devastated the firstborn of Egypt and another later destroyed an army.
An angel is a representative of the LORD and often had messages from HIM. But angels would be quick to state that they are not to be focused on as so many popular books seem to do. They are not to be worshipped or idolized. They like us are servants as one such angel told the apostle John in Revelations. We are to worship GOD.
Angels are in fact ...ministering spirits sent to serve all who will inherit salvation.(Hebrews 1:14)
David Prior in his book The Message of 1 Corinthians brings up an interesting point. It is we by our actions on this earth that teach the wisdom of GOD's gospel to the angels.(page 110, The Message of 1 Corinthians, and 1 Peter 1:14)
To put this in proper perspective, we who believe will eventually be called upon to judge angels. (1 Corinthians 6:3)
Now by no means do I want to denigrate angels. I firmly believe that to this day GOD uses them mightily for the well being of HIS people. But I do want this point driven home. We are to reserve that sense of awe and desire to glorify for GOD alone. For to HIM alone is the majesty, the glory, and the honor owed. As the angel responded to John's attempt to worship him(Revelations 22:9), I counsel you, Worship GOD.
